Interiors photography
Interior photography is carefully planned to showcase the beauty, functionality and atmosphere of a space. I do interior photography for residential homes, hospitality and commercial spaces. I work with hotels, restaurants, bars, individual home owners, high end property agents, and interior designers. Here is a little more info on how an interior photoshoot works. Initial consultation
We will start by having a chat about what you are looking for. I will ask for details about the space, and its style, and we will discuss what the photos will be used for and what the goals of the shoot are, for example showcasing a home for sale, marketing a hotel or restaurant or capturing a designers work. I will gather more details about lighting preferences, key focal points, features that need to be highlighted such as furniture, decor or architectural details.
We will also talk about logistics including the best time of day for shooting (based on natural light) and wether any staging, styling or decluttering id required to make the space look its best. A set stylist or interior stylist may be recommended depending on the shoot and requirements.
Styling and preparation
Styling is very important in interior photography as it insures the space looks exactly as you would like enabling you to market it at your key target audience. Controlling as many details in the space as possible including furniture layout, small home accessories and soft furnishings, will give you the best results. This is where a stylist may be useful as they can assess a space and see where additional items need to be added, and where things might need to be removed or rearranged.
I will assess the light in the space, choosing the optimal time of day to take advantage of the natural light. Natural light is the preferred way of lighting a scene however artificial lighting may be brought in if the natural light is not giving the results we need.
The Shoot
On the day of the shoot I will arrive in plenty of time to set up to capture the space at the best times of the day. I shoot tethered to a laptop so the images I take can be seen and reviewed instantly so changes can be made where needed. I will use different lenses to capture wide shots of the space as well as details or features as required. Sometimes interior shoots are useful to showcase a larger product such as furniture or large decorative accessories. If this is the case then we may move these items in to different locations to capture it in the best spot.
Post production
After the shoot I will do all the basic editing required on the images. For example balancing the light to make sure the space is well lit throughout, fine tuning colour correction to make sure the white balance is correct and correcting any perspective lines that make the angles look incorrect, this is especially important for wide rooms with tall ceilings.
The Final Product
Once the editing is complete, I will deliver the final images in the required formats and sizes. These might include high resolution tiff files for print, or web optimised jpgs for websites and social media. I can also size to specific dimensions to make uploading to the relevant places super easy.
